Dong quai is a member of the Umbelliferae family and is a fragrant perennial herb which can grow up to 2 metres tall, and produces white flowers in early summer. Dong Quai is an aromatic herb used for many menstrual irregularities. It strengthens internal reproductive organs, and helps with internal bleeding and endometriosis. Dong Quai's constituents act to stimulate the central nervous system which can remedy weakness and headaches associated with menstrual disorders. It has been effective in decreasing discomfort of cramps, lower back aches, mood swings, irritability, and bloating.
