Carob appears in the form a small branching tree that grows up to a height of about 30 feet. Its pinnate leaves occur in two or three pairs with oval blunt-topped leaflets and possesses shiny dark green colour. Its tiny red coloured flowers are followed by flat pods which are 6 to 12 inches long and 1 inch wide. The fruits are light to dark-brown in colour.
Carob is extensively used in making food products. Apart from this, it is used to cure diarrhoea, indigestion and heartburn also.
